Communication/Marketing Committee

The Marketing/Communications Committee supports the mission and goals of the IFMA Silicon Valley by overseeing and guiding all external communications and promotional efforts. This committee is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to raise awareness of the organization, its programs, and its impact in the community.

Key Responsibilities: Develop and maintain consistent branding and messaging across all social media platforms. Create and oversee marketing material to promote events, programs, and fundraising initiatives. Manage IFMA SV's social media accounts. Monitor the effectiveness of communication efforts and adjust strategies as needed.

Ideal Members: Members should have experience or interest in marketing, public relations, communications, graphic design, social media, or related fields. Creativity, writing skills, and a collaborative mindset are assets to the committee.

Community Outreach

The Community Outreach Committee plays a key role in building relationships between IFMA Silicon Valley and the local community. This committee is responsible for increasing public engagement, promoting volunteer opportunities, and helping expand the IFMA SV's presence through outreach efforts.

Key Responsibilities: Develop and maintain partnerships with community groups, schools, businesses, and other local organizations. Promote upcoming volunteer events and recruit participants. Help plan and coordinate outreach activities to increase awareness and involvement. Gather feedback from volunteers and community members to improve future events. Support inclusive practices to ensure outreach efforts reflect the diversity of the community.

Ideal Members: Members should be outgoing, community-minded, and passionate about volunteerism. Experience in community engagement, event planning, or public speaking is helpful but not required.

Education

The Education Committee supports the professional development of IFMA Silicon Valley members by planning, promoting, and delivering educational programs and resources. The committee focuses on helping members pursue IFMA credentials such as the FMP (Facility Management Professional), CFM (Certified Facility Manager), SFP (Sustainability Facility Professional), and EOFM (Essentials of Facility Management), as well as managing scholarship opportunities to make these programs more accessible.

Key Responsibilities: Organize and promote credential-specific training and prep courses (FMP, CFM, SFP, EOFM). Coordinate educational events, workshops, and webinars aligned with current industry trends and member interests. Partner with certified instructors, training providers, and IFMA HQ to ensure high-quality programming. Manage and promote scholarship opportunities for members pursuing professional development. Collaborate with other committees to integrate education with chapter events and outreach efforts. Gather feedback to continually improve educational offerings and resources. 

Ideal Members: Members should have an interest in professional development, education, or the facility management field. Experience with IFMA credentials, training coordination, or educational program planning is a plus, but not required. A passion for helping others grow in their careers is essential.

Emerging Facility Professional/Young Professionals

The Young Professionals Committee is dedicated to supporting and engaging emerging facility management professionals within the IFMA Silicon Valley Chapter. The committee focuses on creating opportunities for early-career professionals to build their knowledge, grow their network, and develop leadership skills through targeted educational events and networking activities.

Key Responsibilities: Plan and host educational events tailored to the needs of emerging facility professionals. Create networking opportunities to connect young professionals with industry leaders and mentors. Promote awareness of career paths and IFMA credentialing opportunities such as FMP, SFP, and CFM. Collaborate with local colleges, universities, and trade schools to introduce students to the facility management profession. Support career development initiatives such as panel discussions, and facility tours. Encourage involvement and leadership within the chapter by fostering an inclusive and supportive environment. 

Ideal Members: Members should be early-career professionals, new to their role, under 35 or those passionate about supporting the next generation of facility managers. A background in facility management, education, or event planning is helpful but not required. Energy, creativity, and a commitment to professional growth are key.

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee is responsible for growing and maintaining a strong, engaged membership base for the IFMA Silicon Valley Chapter. This committee focuses on recruitment, retention, and member engagement through direct outreach, events, and personalized support.

Key Responsibilities: Host new member luncheons and welcome events to help members get connected and involved. Communicate with at-risk and lapsed members to encourage renewal and continued engagement. Assist with membership renewals and ensure members are aware of benefits and opportunities. Meet with potential members to share the value of IFMA and encourage chapter involvement. Track membership trends and data to inform recruitment and retention strategies. Attend local expos, career fairs, and industry events to recruit new members. Work with other committees to promote member benefits and drive chapter participation.

Ideal Members: Members should enjoy connecting with others and promoting the value of professional community. Strong communication skills and a welcoming attitude are key. Experience in customer service, outreach, or sales is helpful but not required.

Mentoring Committee

The Mentoring Committee is responsible for managing and growing the IFMA Silicon Valley Chapter’s Mentoring Program, which connects experienced facility management professionals and associate professionals with emerging members. The committee oversees the full mentoring cycle—from application and matching to event planning and program completion—to support professional development and leadership growth within the chapter.

Key Responsibilities: Manage the annual mentoring program, including application intake and participant selection. Pair mentors and mentees based on professional goals, experience, and areas of interest. Plan and host mentoring-related events throughout the year, such as kick-off sessions, check-ins, and workshops. Maintain regular communication with mentees and mentors to ensure progress and engagement. Provide resources and support to help mentors and mentees build successful partnerships. Plan and execute the annual Mentee Graduation event to celebrate program completion. Collect feedback and track outcomes to improve the program each year.

Ideal Members: Members should be passionate about professional growth and enjoy helping others succeed. Experience in mentoring, coaching, or program management is helpful but not required. Strong organizational and communication skills are valuable assets to this committee.

Program Development Committee

The Programs Committee is responsible for planning and executing all Chapter Meetings and Deep Dive Breakfasts events for the IFMA Silicon Valley Chapter. This includes identifying relevant topics, securing engaging speakers, selecting venues, and managing event logistics to deliver high-quality experiences for members throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities: Plan and coordinate monthly programs, panel discussions, facility tours, and special events. Identify timely and relevant topics that align with the interests and needs of chapter members. Source and secure knowledgeable speakers and panelists from the facility management industry. Research and book appropriate venues, tour potential facilities/event spaces, managing event logistics and setup. Collect and evaluate attendee feedback to continually improve programming. 

Ideal Members: Members should be organized, creative, and enjoy planning events. Experience with event coordination, speaker outreach, or logistics management is a plus. A collaborative mindset and attention to detail are essential.
